Request
If it's possible, can somebody please create an SVG file of the sledge flag used by Reginald Fulford during the 1875–1876 British Arctic Expedition, as seen here? More information on the flag's original colour scheme can be read in the "Description" section on the same page. Thanks. Sledge flags used by Robert Falcon Scott

[edit]

Article(s): Robert Falcon Scott, List of Antarctic flags, Exeter Cathedral, Job 39

Request
If possible, could somebody please create SVG files for the three sledge flags used by Captain Scott throughout both the Discovery Expedition (1901–1904) and Terra Nova Expedition (1910–1913) in Antarctica, including:

1) His sledge flag during the Discovery Expedition, based on this PNG version here.

2) His primary sledge flag during the Terra Nova Expedition, as seen here (very similar to the Discovery version, but still with many noticeable differences).

3) His second sledge flag during the Terra Nova Expedition, as seen and described (if you click on the picture's caption) here.

Branding of Smile

[edit]

Article: Smile (The Beach Boys album)

Request
SVGs of the word branding of the unfinished studio album by rock band the Beach Boys. I request several variants of this branding for best convenience. Firstly, I'd like two orientations of both the album title and band name: the original horizontal presentation (SMiLE • The Beach Boys) and one in a square position (The/Beach Boys/SMiLE), since the former would be too wide for use in an article. Furthermore, I'd also like separate variants of these two names, including the orientations of the band name. That makes five SVGs total, if you don't mind.
Lastly, I want to emphasize preserving the original colors of the branding. Here's a HQ image of the album cover with branding; and here's a different yet fair use image with more accurate colors. Good luck! Carlinal (talk) 06:27, 22 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

General feature/tool request

[edit]

Is there a bot or automated process (or even a one-click, rather than fully automated) that can extract the actual raster image wrapped in a {{FakeSVG}} and upload it as its native format? I'm thinking something along the lines of the bots that handle en:Template:Non-free reduce-tagged images on enwiki, or User:SteinsplitterBot that handles Template:Rotate here on commons. DMacks (talk) 17:02, 19 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

See COM:VPP#Proposal to convert Fake SVG to timed deletion template.
For reasons stated there and elsewhere, I believe reuploading the SVG as a bitmap file is counterproductive.
Most of the files in Category:Fake SVG could be reasonable vector format files.
Glrx (talk) 19:30, 19 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. My focus is on technical chemistry diagrams, where naive vectorization often gives mediocre or poor results (and especially in subtle ways that a non-science graphic-artist might not recognize). They should really be redrawn from scratch using a drawing package that knows chemistry style-guides, as SVG or as high-quality PNG. If it were to be zero-effort, unwrapping the SVG-enclosed raster might actually reveal a great PNG, or at least not fool editors into thinking there actually was actually an SVG available when searching for files. But if it's not zero-effort, as that discussion notes, the fake-SVG can just persist and be re-used with no visual problem. This is more from a commons-centric curration effort, where several editors actually do have time+ability+desire to do these tasks, but would rather spend time where it will have the greatest impact. DMacks (talk) 21:02, 19 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Sigh. I just spent some time fixing the chemistry drawing File:AX5E1-2D.svg. It was done in Inkscape and used complicated pattern transforms. Glrx (talk) 21:33, 19 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yup. Those wedged and hashed-wedged shapes and their overall lengths and relative positions radiating off the center are defaults or one-click standard options in any chemistry drawing program and many even have a template for that entire image with the exception of the text letters. Took me less than a minute to create it in ChemDraw. Buuuuuut... my version of ChemDraw can only export raster not SVG (new $$$$ versions and other programs might be able to). Luckily, CHEM MOS does bless high-res PNG that I can do, even though SVG is even better. DMacks (talk) 22:47, 19 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
That's too bad about ChemDraw not exporting SVG. Glrx (talk) 23:28, 19 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Request for Vectorization of Historic Coat of Arms: House of Esparza

[edit]

Article(s): en:Lope Ruiz de Esparza

Request

I would like to request a high-quality SVG vectorization of the historic coat of arms of the House of Esparza, based on heraldic records from Spanish nobility registries.

The current depiction on Commons (if it exists) is either outdated, low-resolution, or lacking heraldic detail. I have provided the original arms description for the blazon below.

Blazon (heraldic description): Or, a wolf statant sable at the foot of an oak tree vert.

  1. Field (Escutcheon Background):
    • Tincture: Or (gold).
    • Rendered in a rich, traditional heraldic gold. It should have texture and depth
  2. Charge 1 – The Wolf:
    • Attitude: Statant (standing on all four legs, facing dexter [heraldic right]).
    • Tincture: Sable (black).
    • The wolf should be stylized but naturalistic
  3. Charge 2 – The Oak Tree:
    • Position: Centered above the wolf, rooted to the ground line.
    • Tincture: Vert (green).
    • Trunk may be in brown (proper), unless a purer heraldic green is preferred.
    • The tree must be recognizably an oak: sturdy trunk, wide canopy, and visible roots or base flare.
  4. Ground or Support (if included):
    • A thin base line (compartment) in natural earth tones may be added to ground the wolf and the oak if the style allows. Otherwise, the charges may float within the field, as is traditional in Iberian arms.

Style Requested: Please follow the style typically used in the coat of arms of the Kingdom of Spain, or the standard heraldic style used in official Spanish armorials.

This redesign is for encyclopedic and historical purposes, and I hope it may benefit Wikipedia articles on related noble families or municipalities. --Euhistoryprofessor (talk) 14:01, 21 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Graphist opinion(s)
I've made an attempt at implementing your request. I'm happy to tweak the colors or use different renderings of the charges if you have suggestions. I decided to make the trunk green for better contrast with the wolf and to more clearly match the blazon and Escudo de Ruiz de Esparza.png, at least for my first draft. I'm not sure what you think of as a 'rich, traditional heraldic gold' – does a warm yellow do the trick, or do you need a metallic gradient? —Ilzolende (talk) 21:30, 28 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Graphist opinion(s)
This should not be done. The red and gold version is the correct banner of Cambridgeshire County Council (and is flown as a flag at its headquarters). That area covers two historic counties - Cambridgeshire and Huntingdonshire, and the ceremonial county ropes in Peterborough too). The two counties have their own flags, designated specifically as for the historic counties.
If the barnstar is intended to indicate work in connection with the local government area or the ceremonial county, the red and gold version is correct. The blue and gold flag would be appropriate for a connection to the historic county: see its entry on the UK Flags Register. Hogweard (talk) 06:38, 23 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I hate to be picky, but I've noticed that these logo sizes are inconsistent. Whenever they're used together in the rail-interchange template on a route diagram template, much like this one for example, there is a notable discrepency in their appearance sizes. On the rail-interchange template, all of them are being displayed at 20px each, yet they appear with different sizes. I'm sorry if this is a bit stringent, but the inconsistency really messes a lot with the visual aesthetics. Thanks for being understanding. --OrdinaryScarlett (talk) 09:20, 6 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Similarly to the request above, there are very slight discrepancies in the sizes of these four logos that just need to be adjusted a tiny bit to be consistent. Thanks! --OrdinaryScarlett (talk) 09:28, 6 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
